Community Transport, Driver Breaks, and the Kind of Work That Matters

We’ve been doing a couple of things with Orcoda lately that are worth sharing.

The first is around community transport. Orcoda already has a solid product for organisations that help elderly or disabled people get to medical appointments, social outings, and day programs. It handles the bookings, the vehicle tracking, the driver apps.

Their software is built for a sector where the passengers have different needs: mobility aids, carers, access ramps, behavioural considerations. Not your standard point A to point B delivery. We’ve been helping them go deeper with that, supporting their community transport customers on the more complex problems that don’t fit neatly into a standard scheduling engine.

The Second Piece

The other thing we’ve been working on is driver breaks.

It sounds simple, but it’s surprisingly fiddly. Drivers have to take breaks at specific times. Not too early. Not too late. And there’s an art to spacing breaks efficiently across a shift.

Orcoda’s platform already handles fatigue management; their website mentions alerts for driver breaks and pre-planned routes that include fatigue management. But we’re helping them improve how those breaks get optimised.

Get the timing right, and you’ve got better compliance and happier drivers. Get it wrong, and you’re either breaching regulations or annoying your workforce.

Why It Matters

Not all optimisation is about cost reduction. Sometimes it’s about helping an organisation run better so they can serve their community more effectively. Orcoda’s community transport product is about helping more people access transport, doing more with less, and reducing carbon emissions along the way.

That’s work worth doing.
